TGIF!!

But I'm at home!!!! Gurading the house..
While my parents are out karaoke-ing...aw man..Times have changed....
Haha...

========
Was having dinner with the choy family on Monday night...
Nice nice time...laughing..munching...:)
Managed to sneak a few sips of Chivas 18 years in between.. haaa...
Cos papa choy couldn't do without his drink and brought a small vial of it along to dinner.. ahha..

HongKong Cafe..the one at Upper East Coast Road..
Been a few months since I went there so I was happy when I was informed of the venue...
New menu..more choices...shiok!!

=========
Shit shit shit...
I am a sucker for laksa....well..at least for this week...
Had it on Tuesday at Temasek Tower with Cherry & Peter Pan...
Had it today again...at the same stall....

Bleah...

=========
Shall arrange for lunchie with Shirley..hee...
My promise to her during her confinement...:)
Lovely sweet girl...

=========
Had dinner alone at Coffee Club on Wednesday night.
Liews..my first time ever having dinner alone in a restaurant...

Was feeling hmm..I dunno...sad, lost, frustrated, bored, restless...
Somehow found myself there though my initial idea was to go home and cook maggi mee..
Ended up paying $21 bucks for my meal...
A simple pasta & an earl grey...

But the Garlic Prawn with Linguine was heaven....*drools*
Loads of basil & garlic...Garlic was not finely that finely chopped so I could feel it crunching in between my teeth...
Woohoo!!!!
Prawns were fresh and there was quite a few of them too!

Will go back...not so soon though... hehe....

=========
It's official.
I have put on weight..about 1-plus to 2 kg...
Managed to psycho myself to go stand on the weighing scale...

And voila, the needle is not where it used to be anymore...
Sighzz...result of weeks of eating out and eating good stuff...Damn..
Year end is coming..festivities and mroe eating....

Jialats!

=========
Speaking of putting on...
Hehe...a conversation went like this yesterday...

She: "I am getting fat!!" *squeezes imaginary fat from upper arms* "You see!!"
Me: "Oh ok..."
She: "Sighz...how ah? jialat leh..." *prolly expects me to say something more or something encouraging*
Me: *stares blankly for a few moments and then gives a cursory smile*

muahahaha......
*wink wink* for those fellow fruities in the know...

zzzzzzz.....

Oh my... hhaa....ain't you nice to me these few days?
Hmmmm...can joke with me, gossip with me...ask me out for lunch???

The weather has suddenly changed.
And we will have fair weather..clear skies with no hint of rain...

Hmm...

==========
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
To hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

(William Blake)

==========
I am spent! Will go bathe now...
Read some pages..pac by bag for tmr...And then go snoooooozzzzeeee....

Going Sentosa tmr! Long time no go.
Haha....more specifically..long time no go with the uni peeps...
Dan, Kym, XL, Von....

By the way, the book's getting interesting...
The murderer's a psycho...with a disturbing childhood...hmm mm....
Victim's mum is a psychiatrist...So there's some mind games in the book....
Makes for a slow but interesting read so far....

Bad Dream Yesterday

Bad dream yday...From the way I see it...it reeks of tension again...
Been a few days or maybe a week since my last dream?

===========
Was in an amusement park with Dad & Adrian.
Perhaps something like a carnival of sorts...those which you might find in the States in the 50s or 60s...round carousels...big tents of red and white stripes...clowns eveerywhere handing out sweets to small children..

Mum was not there at all. Neither was Gran...
I seem to have an impression of Mei & little Marc somewhere...
Could sense their presence in the dream..but didn't really see them...
I think I was a young girl in the dream..barely in my teens...

We were watching animals performing tricks of all kinds...
Bears, dogs, cats, snakes, chimps, other smaller monkeys...
Hamsers and other rodents too...(though I know this sounds bizarre...what can a hamster perform??)

The scene zipped forward to after the performance.
I had somehow snuck to the area where they kept these stage animals.
I was appalled...those were horrible conditions...filthy, smelly, dark, damp, grimy...
And the cages were small with rusty bars...
Some animals were not in cages but just tied up on very short ropes, gazing at me with their sad, mournful eyes...
Food was stale and flies were buzzing everywhere...

I felt sad and angry..unjustification of the treatment of these animals and so I went round the cages, releasing the animals one by one...
Found a pair of shears and freed those tied to the ropes too.

The scene zipped froward again...
The warden found out...caught me in the act just as I was releasing the last one...
I ran. He ran after me.
The warden's angmoh by the way...

And I ran and ran. And he ran and ran too..Screaming and ranting..Hurling curses at me..
I kept running...on and on...
It felt like a small scale Jackie Chan movie...I was sliding down slopes and clamberingup grass slopes...

I am still running...And then like a flash, I morphed into an adult...like who I am today..
And like another flash, I met Chloe & Jenice.

I told them "Hey, can't tok long with you girls. Someone's chasing after me.."
They didn't ask why someone was chasing after me...but shared with me that they were going to Australia in a few months time for a month-long vacation.
I said.."Wah, that's nice. Ok, Gotta Go!!"

And then I ran again...panting & heaving..
Felling tired..but then again, strangely not tired...
I went where my legs brought me...
I could still hear the warden's angry voice hollering behind...though getting softer...

I turned into a corner and then..what the fish???
The street was suddenly filled with lotsa Chinese teenagers...
There was a banner that said StreetFest 2006. (FYI, there's really such an event in SG).
Hordes of these teenagers...All manga fanatics...
Decked out in those anime costumes...Hair gelled up to look like any one of those anime characters...

I got deeper into the crowd...and managed to shake off the warden...
But soon got lost amidst this teeming crowd....
Everywhere I turned would be someone dressed in an anime costume...
Some were gothic...black clothes, black hair...kohl-lined eyes...black lipstick..black nails...
I was desperate to find a way out of these people...

==========
And then I woke up...heart racing...
And it was 7-plus in the morning...
Cursed silently...took a few more winks...and then got up to prepare for the day....

Wah lan eh......grrrrrrrr..................

arggggghhhhhhhhh

Reading without Comprehending
Writing without Connecting
Eating without Tasting
Hearing without Listening
Watching without Seeing
Thinking without Feeling
Doing without Knowing

I dunno...
Tired.
Frustrated.
Melancholic.
Bad mood.
All rolled into one big fat ill-tasting popiah.

The B-O-O

Bloody Obstinate Oyster...

You know the pearl's there..
You're not gonna take it..but just wanna see...
So you take a step closer to take a peek..

And the Bloody Obstinate Oyster clams shut.
And so you wait patiently for it to open again...

And when it does, you take an extra step..
Still open...
Another step...
Bham it snaps shut again...

And so you play the waiting game...
Progressing a minute step ahead each time...
Waiting..
Just waiting...

For the day the Bloody Obstinate Oyster...
Decides to just bare it all...
And show its pearl to you...

tues....

Not so good a day again...
So-so lah...

Drab, mundane...did menial stuff today...
Like packing soft toys (yes in the office) and doing some art & craft for an event tomorrow..

senseless ramblings

Haha...ahboy is exasperated when I go into hysterics over a cute doggie I see...
And he gets exasperated even more when I start telling him the breed...

That's a Daschund I point out..
Alsation!
Corgi!
Cavalier King's Charles Spaniel!
Pinscher!
Westie!
Yorkshire!
Rottweiler!

He just rolls his eyes in response...

Muahahha..and in a perverted sense of humour..
I enjoy irritating him in this sense hehe...

To him, a dog is a dog and just a dog. Period. Haha..
Probably the only 2 breeds he can recognise are Retrievers and Chihuahuas...=)
Oh I forgot, he can recognise a Husky too..

==========
Sometimes, it feels just good...
To be able to be in the company of people/friends/allies with whom you can just let your guard down and be who you are...

It feels nice to be able to talk and act silly...
It feels cool to be able to say what you please, no matter how ridiculous or crude or crass it is..
It feels good to be able to laugh your heart out and giggle till your tummy aches...
It feels great to be able to feel comfortable with them around you...
It feels wonderful to be able to get that warm and fuzzy feeling in your heart..
Knowing that this friend of yours..will be there for you when you need it...

And well, it feels nice not to need to measure your words when you speak to them...
And not to second-guess what their words mean...
And not to get snide remarks with the intent to hurt you in your gut...

They are just who they are..
And you are just who you are...
Simple as that...
Just them and you enjoying each other's company...

And I'm glad for the simple joy and happiness I felt during the 3 dinners I had this week just past...
Monday with the sec sch gang...
Wednesday with the 2 other fruities..Lemon & Cherry...
Friday with the uni gang..
Yes, it really feels nice and well...
I love my friends...

========
I wanna organise another dinner...with Melissa & Celia...=)
Maybe we can go hmm...gorge ourselves on Jap food.. haha...Waraku here we come!!

I wanna organise another dinner...with Lemon & Cherry & Peter Pan...prolly Fish & Co @ Bugis...hmm..been quite awhile since I've been there...kinda miss the seafood platter!!! hehe... Say, maybe 3rd november Friday? or 7th November Tuesday?
Lemme know how it goes yeah?

And oh yes, am looking forward to the numerous uni gatherings we have lined up for the month of December...=))

=========
Finished a book today.
"Scorched Earth" by David L. Robbins.
One of those books gotten from the Book Fair.

Hmm..the book explores religion, racism, marriage ideals, maternal instincts and the law...
All in one book....
Plot was not very concise with some facts mentioned earlier on..but not addressed when the book came to a close...
There were some sub-plots mentioned too...but not addressed when the story came to a close... Though it did a good job of keeping me riveted to it... haha...

Moving onto another book liaozz..
"Mary Mary" by Julie Parsons. Murder mystery novel...

Yeah...!!

=========
Scrubbed myself today...with the Strawberry Scrub...
Woohoo! I smell heavenly now hahaha.....

=========
Was at Vivocity yesterday...
Half of SG was there...and like us, they stayed till the shops closed at around 1030 before the left...
And so, when half of SG leave sthe carpark at the same time..what do you get???
You get a BLOODY JAM in a freaking carpark!!!
Worst thing was that we parked on the uppermost floor, the 7th floor of the multi-storey parking lots....
Bleah...took us half an hour ..from 1020pm till 1050pm....before we finally reached the 1st floor...

The dumb thing about is was...
There were people in the queue behind us who were honking their asses off....
And when one honked, 2 or 3 others would follow.
In an enclosed area like a carpark...it makes for hell of a loud din.

Thing is, HONK FOR WHAT???
It's not like as if gonna help the situation right?
Honking won't make the cars "unjam"...
Honking won't get magically get you down to the 1st floor...
You're in a freaking Q.
Get that in your head....you wait for your turn to reach the desired objective.
Sheesh...........

Of frustrations & hunger pangs...

Frustrating day at work. Well, at least for the 2nd half of it..
Started out okay...And even popped by MOS Buirger at Raffles Place for a nice lunch with Celia...

Woes, frustrations, helplessness, bewilderedness came by in the evening around 445pm...
Spoke on the phone to a manager...hope it clears the air that I am equally as lost..
And that I just took over this portfolio...and that well...I am just following instructions from my own boss.
If you ain't happy with the way some strategic decisions/things are done, don't look for the ground people.
Look for the bosses they report to!!!

Seriously, I think I am being made to look incompetent now...
Cos of no fault and direction of mine.

Was telling Cherry..wish I could tell them.."Hey, GO FLY KITE!!!"
Engage us when you have cleaned up your own act and confusions...
Go clear your opposing views 1st ya...
Before getting us to do anything...

Bleah...

===========
I am a hungry hippo today...dunno why..
Ate alot in MOS...
Ate alot during dinner...
Ate alot during desserts time...

And now my mouth is starting to itch again..!!!

I am craving for Blk 85's Bak Chor Mee!!!!!!!!!!

===========
I think I am gonna start drinking cranberry juice...at least twice a week...
I think it's good for ladies...
Nice notion to consider...

Friday Night Dinner

Today's uni gathering was kinda disappointing at the start...

Chiewz couldn't make it at the last minute..
Sky was MIA as usual..holidaying in Taiwan..
Mao didn't know of it cos the email addy the notification went to was a wrong one..
Seng had something on liao...
And HB...kaozz...slept till 11pm...befor ehe called us to find out where we were...

So there were only 5 of us..Von, Dan, Kym, XL & me...

Went to Lerk Thai in Marina Square...Food was nice...=)) Affordable and good...
Still hungry so we went NYDC in Suntec...Finger foods & drinks & cakes...

And the bill came up to $74...kaozz...almost twice that of our main dinner... ahha....
Damn NYDC..y are the dumb cakes so expensive??

Danny-boy sent me back...yay! haha...cheapo....=p

Anyway, it was a nice night together in the end...
Took awhile to get our engines started but when it did, man were we coursing at full speed!
haha...lotsa ribbing at the expense of Von as usual...

Some snippets:

Joke of the Day #1
Us: Kaiping ROM liao...and he's already held his wedding dinner in China, but not in Singapore yet.
Von: Har? Why did he have to hold his dinner in China??
Us: *eyes open wide and chimes in unison* DUHH!!! Obvious right?????
Von: Har? *ponders for 2 more seconds* Oh okokok!!! Now I know....hahahaha...sorry sorry...slow lah.....
Us: Nvm, it's the usual you.. haha...

Joke of the Day #2
Total bill of NYDC = $74. Von paid $30 to Kym before she left.
The rest to be split between me & Kym cos it was supposed to be our treat.

Man oh man...
it took 4 university grads (out of which 2 are bankers) 20 minutes to sort out how much did I have to pay Kym to settle the bills...
Man oh man....

So what have we here??:
1. Apparently Kym has been clubbing at Thumper at least once a week for the past 2months plus??? Since when was he so into clubbing??
Not before he joined SCB lor!! haha....and he's such a regular till the bouncers know him...

2. XL has joined Kym on some of his clubbing endeavours!
And one of their undertakings during such outings is to well...compete with each other to see if they can each get a phone number from a member of the opposite sex and who can do it first... *roll eyes* hahaa....

3. Von is still....well..Von... haha...blur, chirpy, clumsy, enthusiastic...
She was closing a door a few weeks ago when she slammed it on her own pinkie...Got a blackened pinkie fingernail as a result...

4. Dan's last day is next Tuesday...and he'll take the 2 months plus to do the relevant documentation...Going Sydney for about a year to study...Masters in Applied Finance...
Leaving in mid Jan..

More Outings Are Akan Datang!!!

1. Early Dec...Ah Ger's wedding

2. Mid Dec...A gathering for the Dec babies, Dan, XL & Sky....
Kym kena arrow to be organiser since he's never done one before at all..Venue has been set to either Hanabi at Odeon Towers...Woohoo!! Jap buffet.....
OR Tian Tian Steamboat at Liang Seah Street....woohoo!! lovely simpel steamboat fare!!

3. Early or Mid Jan...Farewell for Dan...Venue to be discussed again....

Fruities Unite!

The Lemon
A spiny, Asian evergreen tree (citrus limon) widely cultivated for its yellow, egg-shaped fruit. The fruit of this tree, having a yellow aromatic rind and juicy, acid pulp.

The Cherry
The fruit of any of various trees belonging to the genus Prunus, of the rose family, consisting of a pulpy, globular drupe enclosing a one-seeded smooth stone.

The Kiwi
Also called the Chinese gooseberry. The egg-sized, edible berry of the Chinese gooseberry, having fuzzy brownish skin and slightly tart green flesh.

================

And so the Lemon, the Cherry and the Kiwi....

Gather at Brazil for a night of carnivorous activities...
(Garlic beef, pork, chicken thigh, ham, sauteed fish, topside beef...!! woohoo!!)

Albeit with a dash of herbivorous interludes now and then...=)
(Potato salad, sauteed onions, iceberg lettuce and cherry tomatoes!! woohoo!)

Silence in the beginning as each savoured their helpings...
Slowly warming up as the red blood cells revved and huffed...

Bitchings and intimate sharing of informations..
Peppered with wild laughter..Aw man...
Topped with luscious snippets of delectable humour here and there..

From bangings to dreams and more bangings...
From the homosapien mind to biology and whores...
From bosses to colleagues to more whores...

Heh.... =)
Thanks for the lovely time guys...

some pics.....till my pc hanged on me...

At Ximen MRT

Weird TCM stuff seen at Shihlin Night Market. This tube is stuck into your ear.
And a candle burns just outside the tube. Supposed to clear your ear of wax.
After the candle burns through, the tube is removed and voila! Your ear wax is all collected in the tube!!

Taipei's Partyworld...

Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall...one of the 3 buildings there..

Stairs to climb before we can see the actual memorial hall....bleah...

Sights...of Hua Lien. Also known as Taroko Gorge

Taiwan Part Trois

Some more things which came to mind about the place.

POP
The songs which are blasting from the shops over there are mainly from Lee Sheng Jie, Jolin Tsai, Rainie Yang...and of course the ubiquitous Jay Chou.
The more obiang stalls, found mostly in night markets or the more ulu streets...were blasting Hokkien songs..which well...I can't identify with at the moment...
Haha but some of them are really nice though.. haha

Rainie Yang & Jolin are seen over all sorts of adverts..from milk to some funny electronic gadget..

MRT
I mentioned in an earlier post that their train system is fantastic.
Even the underground malls are huge...every nook and cranny is not wasted...from food stalls to fashion outlets...to book stores & trinket shops.

I thought out Dhoby Ghaut MRT station was quite huge...with it being an interchange station.
Kaozzzz....it pales in comparision to their main interchange station.
I think our Dhoby Ghaut is just 1/3 or even 1.4 the size of the Taipei main station.
It felt like a maze...trying to change from one direction line to another...

SIGNAGES
Haha..I have to say this. I'm glad I can still read a little bit of Chinese.
Thought it takes me quite long to figure out the words.
This was a hindrance at food outlets with menus plastered on the walls...cos I took kinda long to figure out what I wanted to eat.

Some signages have English translations...especially those in hotels or public signages.
My hotel room had a sign which said "Keep Out of the Children Can't Be Reached!"
Another sign said "Please Throw The Dust in the Dust Bag!"

Tickled my funny bone...=)

CHIANG KAI SHEK
The Taiwanese really respect him. There's a whole huge area dedicated to him as a memorial site.
We gauged it at about more than 10 football fields.
With 3 separate buildings erected as a tribute to him.

OF HILLS & VALLEYS - OF WALKS & CLIMBS
We went to 3 places out of Taipei. One was Hua Lien, one was Jiu Fen, another was Wu Lai.

Views were all amazing. All mountainous and from the top of Jiu Fen, you can see far far away...till the sea.
Kaozz...imagine if you're staying there...you wake up every morn to the sun's rays fresh fromt he sky..and the dew fresh from the clouds...and to a magnificent sea/mountain view...

And of course, the downside to visiting these places was that...climbing upslope was inevitable...stairs, stairs and more stairs...
Think I climbed more than I would have over a year in SG. Bleah...

Think we walked an average of 5km a day too? and yeah, we walked more when we were in hua Lien. We might have hit 7-8km that day...
EXcluding some steep stairs which we had to conquer...

TEMPLES
Hmm..lemme see, think we visited about 2-3 temples whilst there.
One was called the Dragon Mountain Temple. Quite big. Lotsa altars, with each being the abode to a different deity.
Seem to recall that there were like one main altar, and about 7-8 smaller ones..
Did lotsa praying and well...was kinda overwhelmed by the fumes from the joss sticks too...

Another one we visited was in Hua Lien. This was really picturesque.
What can I say. After climbing up lotsa flights of stairs...Huffing and panting away...
Then you suddenly reach a plateau.
And there stands in front of you a huge gold statue of Buddha. Perhaps 3-4 storeys high?

My reaction was "Fwah".....
And behind the Buddha statue...was just mountains and more mountains..rolling on and on.
Faint wisps of clouds and mist were hanging in the air...
And the air was so crisp and fresh...
Serenity was the word man.
No sounds except for the breeze blowing and the

Walked further on and there was another big statue, this time of Guanyin...Goddess of Mercy.
Same reaction. "Fwah"...
Prayed somemore at this temple called the Prosperity andMoral Temple....well um..if my translation is correct haha...

Frustration. Restlessness. Envy. Hope. Directionless.

Friends.
Family.
Boyfriend.
Self.

Can someone tell me....how to achieve the right balance between all elements????????

I need to spend more effort on myself too.
Been wasting my weekends away...
Been wasting my time away...idling and not doing much...not achieving much.
And come to think of it?
Damnit, I've been idling ever since graduation...well almost...arrrggggghhhhhh

Spent the whole afternoon being restless.
I need to do something. But what?
I need to make use of my time better. But doing what??

Oh what the fuck.
What the fuck.

========
It's going to be a hectic 2 weeks again maybe.
Time spent to catch up on work.
Last I checked, which was yesterday afternoon, there's like 220 unread emails over the course of a week. Kaozzzzz...an average of 45 emails a day????? xiao...really xiao.

And also, time spent to research on which course I wanna take up.
If it's language, it'll be French or Jap. French seems more likely..
If it's music, it'll be guitar or keyboard.

3 more events coming up in the next 2 weeks too.
And one more in 3rd week of November..
Gonna be a mad mad mad rush.

And in between all these, there's a wedding to attend. (my poor pockets....)
Plus 4-5 dinners/gatherings which are long owed to some parties.

And well...there's gonna be time spent to well...haha..flip Recruit?

========
Just realised, damn, I really bought enough books at the book fair last month.
Enough to last me for at least 6 months or more....
There's like 6-7 unread books lying in my shelf...which is err...getting to be overrun...

========
Think I'll check with Niggie.
How are the French courses at Alliance Francaise like...And when the next intake is.
Just missed an intake...applications closed last week.

On another note, will check with ahboy...on how keyboard lessons are like..
Am torn between language and music..

Which to take?
Wonder if I can take them concurrently...hmm...interesting thought...

========
The Premier...@ Tampines.
Darn it!
5700 pax applying for 616 rooms.

That's like demand is 9 times more than supply!!!!!!!!

Hmm..if you take a more realistic approach, 5700 pax = about 2350 couples...
Which still makes it about...
Demand is 6 times more than supply!!!

Kaozzzzz.............
*crosses fingers*

========
Hmm...Danny-boy might be going Aussie to study next Jan...back at end of 2007.
Good for him..At least he's achieving something..
And doing something he's been thinkin gof since almost a year ago...

The "F" Word

hahaha....I'm a YouTube addict!!
beer

wah lan eh.....HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!
Team Hoyt: An Inspiring Story of Courage and Dedication

Here I am, bombarding my own blog...can't help it..

But this is a really nice story to share..of love, determination & faith..
Together - Team Hoyt

This is another video...inspiring..simply inspiring..
(Can ) Father-son bond of Dick and Rick Hoyt

My vendor sent me this..And damn, my tear ducts are running again...full force.

Just wanted to share this story of Dick Hoyt which touches my very soul. It may be abit long but please read the whole story before clicking the link to the video.

Dick pushes his disabled son, Rick through 85 26.6 miles marathons. 8 times he not only pushed but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars of his bicycle - all in the same day!

Dick also pulled him cross-country skiing, taken him mountain climbing on his back and once hauled him across US on a bicycle.

And what has Rick done for his father? Not much - except saved his life.

The story begins 43yrs ago when Rick was strangled by the umbilical cord during birth, leaving him "Brain Damaged" and unable to control his limbs.

Instead of resigning to their fate, the Hoyts believed that Rick's brain is not "Damaged" as described by the doctors. When Rick was 11, they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the by communicate. ``No way, there's nothing going on in his brain." They told Dick after some testing. "Tell him a joke,'' Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed. Turns out a lot was going on in his brain...

Rigged up with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate. With sheer determination, Rick was able to go to the public school like any kids.

During his high school a classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, ``Dad, I want to do that.'' on his keyboard.

Wanting to help Rick fulfill his wishes, Dick who had never run more than a mile at a time, pushed his son through the 5 miles race.

That changed Rick's life, ``Dad,'' he typed, ``when we were running,it felt like I wasn't disabled anymore!'' and this sentence changed Dick's life forever.

He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling...... This is the beginning of Team Hoyt's many runs from 5 miles to 26.6 miles from just running (marathons) to running, swimming and cycling (triathlons, ironmans).

All that, coming from someone who had never run more than a mile, never learned to swim and had not ridden a bicycle since he was 6.

Dick is 65 and Rick is 43 this year, they have just finished their 24th Boston Marathon in 5083rd place out of 20,000 starters. Their best time is 2 hrs, 40mins in 1992, only 35 minutes off the world record!!

Now, how did Rick, saved Dick's life??? Two years ago, Dick suffered a mild heart attack during a race. doctors found one of his arteries was 95% clogged. ``If you hadn't been in such great shape,'' one doctor told him, ``you probably would've died 15 years ago.''

Taiwan Part Deux

And so my story continues...

PEOPLE
The people are generally nice, though there were of cos some unfriendly people. And I love the way they speak. It's sooooo sing-song!
Even the guys speak in such tones..

Didn't see much cute guys but there were cutie pie teenage girls around. Taiwanese have good complexions..perhaps due to the weather..even when the sun is out, there's a breeze so you don't perspire much. Ain't as humid as in SG.

Most shop owners thought we were from Hong Kong. Some were smart enough to guess we were from SG.

ARCADES
Hehe...quite alot of such small arcades in the Hsimending area. They have alot of those little machines where a robot hand comes down to pick a soft toy for you.

But our fav was a basketball machine. Alot of these around too. You are given 40 seconds (or was it 30??) to shoot hoops. If you manage to bag in 20 hoops (i.e 40 points), then you get to go to the next round, so on and so forth.
Played at least 6-7 games on our last day.. ahha...and now my right arm is aching haha..
I think Kel would love this machine!

HUALIEN
We went to this place called HuaLien..There's a famous scenic place called the Taroko Gorge there. It was a long long journey there. 2.5 hours by express train and another 45 minutes by drive.

But the view was breathtaking. Mountains, trees, foliage, river, rocks...bleah...I can't describe in words.. haha...and nneither have I downloaded the pics yet...so till then...haha

Getting sleepy.. again...think I'll log off now....zzzzzzzz............

Blimey! Time Flies!! Taiwan Part Une

Just a day ago, I was munching ramen in a little shop just on the outskirts of Hsimending, Taiwan.
And now, I'm crouched in front of my PC, in my little space...in Tampines, Singapore.

The travel bug has got to me..(and my pockets)...been out of the country for 5 times this year I think..hmm..might be one more coming up at year end...ain't sure yet..

A little over 5 days of "escape"...this time round to Taipei city.
Some things gleaned from my meagre days of experience there.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Taking a cab there is a helluva killer. The meter jumps like as if somebody's rigged it.. (hmm..don't tell me it was rigged?....hmm..)
Anyway, for a 40 minute ride from the airport to our hotel. It cost us about $60 bucks.
My eyes were riveted to the damn meter for the second half of the ride haha...

The MRT system is by comparison, a much much much more pocket friendly mode of transport.
Costs about $1 for a 6-7 train stop journey.
And the train network is kinda cool, far-reaching in all directions N, S, E & W.

PERSONAL TRANSPORT
Lotsa little scooters scooting about. Kinda cute to see a chio bu in tight shorts and boots riding one of them little things.
But they can be a nuisance, zipping about everywhere, even on the pathways meant for pedestrians.
Then again, the roads and footpaths are a blur, can't tell one from another...
So it ends it up that both pedestrians and cars/scooters all share the same road.

FASHION/SHOPPING
Dang, so many shops..but all selling the same stuff. Lotsa little shops selling trinkets and accessories like earrings/bracelets/bangles/hair stuff/scarves/hats/belts.
Clothes there are super Harajuku. Very Japanese. Very um...arty farty??

Mini skirts worn over leggings and Converse sneakers.
Jackets worn over off-shoulder tops which are in turn worn over tank tops and capped off with a beret. Striped leggings, lacy ones, black ones, red ones, white ones, green ones, blah blah blah...

Not suitable for this plain Jane over here haha...
But you can call me a klutz too...cos I ain't a shopper and seeing so many of these things...
I simply didn't know where to start and well, ended up not buying so many things afterall haha.

And oh yah, even the uniforms are made to look so cool...Wouldn't mind being a school girl once again if I can wear their uniforms...plain white blouse worn with a tartan skirt..black stockings (or white)...worn with whatever shoes you choose...

Price-wise, things ain't very cheap. Some are of the same price range as in SG.
Of course, if you walk long enough, you'll find some shops selling sale items...and if you're lucky enough to find a right size, you'll get it for a steal..I got a long pants for a STEAL..$5 bucks!!
And it's funny, some shops carry one item in just one size and one piece.
If it can't fit you, then too bad.

SHOES
It was an orgasmic experience. And I'm not talking about those normal stores selling normal heels & pumps & girly slippers.
I'm talking about those shoe shops selling sports shoes, casual sneakers, basketball shoes, running shoes, walking shoes, trainers, cross-trainers...blah blah blah..

The amount of sneaker shops everywhere was overwhelming. Alot of them come in the form of 3-story shophouses. Each level carrying a different brand of sports shoes/sneakers. eg. 1st floor = Nike, 2nd floor = Adidas, 3rd floor = Puma & Asics.

Mind you, these are not fakes. They are genuine goods..and these shops carry models that are not found in Singapore. Old models, new models, you name it..they have it. Whatever colour combination you want, it's all there...!!! Superb Superb!!!
For a non-sneaker owner, I was salivating all the way...ended up with 2 pairs of sneakers...one Puma, one Adidas. Almost got a 3rd pair, an Asics...but well...decided I have only a pair of feet... haha...

Ahboy was caught in a frenzy over the shoes too...coo-ing over all the basketball & running shoes there..and all the Air Max-es that were there...
They have the new Air Max 360 there too, in a whole spectrum of colours...

FOOD
I ain't kidding when I say that everywhere you turn, you can find a makan place.
From restaurants to cheaper eateries. From themed restaurants to sidewalk cafes.
From roadside stalls to pushcart pedlars. From small snacks & drinks to full-blown meals.

Bubble tea is still rampant there. Unlike in SG where the fad has died.
There were weird stuff around, some innovative, some disgusting..Well..disgusting to me at least...but delicacies to them.

Pig innards, chicken innards, some weird stuff which looked like intestines to me...
Pig blood porridge, pig blood soup...Some were specialty stalls selling wildlife food items...

We were walking along a night street market on night...and we saw a stall with cages of rabbits, snakes, civet cats, some animal which looked like a hedgehog..
We saw turtle carcasses, snake skins & some other stuff which we couldn't even identify..
Grilled, broiled, smoked, baked, stewed, stir-fried...Piangzzz......

There was a guy who was trying to get us to patronise his stall...and telling us the health properties of snake blood. His menu even carried snake blood ice-cream...how "innovative" can you get???

But aside from these off-the-beaten track stalls...There were other interesting food like pushcart stalls selling Taiwanese-style prata..you get to choose the types of fillings you want ranging from bacon, eggs, cheese to spring onion, asparagus, chicken, etc.
Kebab stalls, dumpling stalls, stalls selling fried milk to chicken steaks...The famous oyster mee sua...fried dough sticks, fried quails' eggs, fried
Dessert stalls to the traditional Bing Tang Hu Lu sweets...

It's a wonder, with the amount of food to eat, Taiwanese people ain't really big-sized...

recapitulation...

The past few days has been a blur.

Monday night's driving went very well..

Tuesday night.
Went for Nancy's dinner and had a jolly good time with William & Eric...
Food at Chef Chan's was so-so only though..
Expected more from them...
Got home around 11pm and was stoned cos of the red wine..

Wednesday...
Woke with a sorethroat and zombied through the rest of the day...
What else but meetings again in the afternoon..
Then went for makan at Moonfish Seafood & Pasta with Enigma...
Who was regaling me with stories of his volunteer trip to Timor Leste.

Thursday....today...
Rushed
Is the word to describe it.
Sat at my desk for only 2.5 hours today. In the morn.
Then meeting..

Then rushed to Bugis for a choppy, chirpy, acidic, happy, fun...
Bitchy, gossipy, talkative, yummy, ....
Lunch with Glenny-boy at Ajisen Ramen
The pepper beef ramen was not too bad...
Sad to say that it wreaked a small havoc on my throat...
Yeah, I deserve it...Never take care properly...

Rushed back to office for a meeting
After this meeting
Rushed to OMB for a briefing/meeting
Then rushed to Suntec for an exhibition

Snuck in some time to pay a visit to my ex-boss
Soent some time in his new office..
And then rushed to Raffles Place for makan with ahboy

Bleah...reached home with legs which felt barely there....

=========
Grilled by parents for 45 minutes just now..
Over the path of my future..
Our future rather...
Sigh. Parents.

=========
Packed some stuff for the trip...
Got a guide book from Siva...
Think it will help..=)

Hope we changed enough $$ to spend there.
Hmm...

=========
the premier...
hmm...

3 years
hmmmmmmm.........

In the Dark

Walking...just walking along
No direction
No idea
Just a steady plodding gait

With naught but another walking beside
Plodding with the same gait
Only difference is this other knows the direction
I am but a follower

I have no ropes
To guide me
But only my trust and patience
To hold onto

How long can I last?
How far can I walk?
How stretched can my patience be?
Before I finally get a sense of the direction?

It is tough not knowing
I am trying my best
I have not complained as yet
But it is tough

I only pray that
My trust and patience holds out
And I will see a rainbow
At the end of the day

I can speak to few
And far in between
For nary but a few
Can understand

What is it that I cannot know?
Why is it that I cannot know?
I feel a slight doggedness
Walking in the dark

Tears I shed
Mark the path I have trodden upon
Sighs I give
Flutter away in the tunnel behind me

Hope and faith
Trust and patience
I hang onto you dearly now
Do not fail me

The path meanders slightly
From what I had drawn in my mind
Disappointment or sadness
I know not what I am feeling now

I seek to comprehend
But I cannot
For I do not know
For I am not a recipient of words

Will there be a culmination?
Will there be a anything?
I do not know again
For I am in the dark

Talkingcock in Parliament

Wanted to upload a video from YouTube and it screwed my settings...bleah...nabeh....

Anyway, logged on just now to reply a friend's email..and ended up watching almost 2 hours worth of videos on YouTube.

Go check it out on YouTube: Talkingcock in Parliament.
Ok, some of you might already know about this...sorry if I'm abit late..but well...hehe..suaku mah...

Some of the things discussed are uniquely Singaporean...some of the topics are what everyone can relate to..some are heartwarming..some are downright satirical..others are bland...and some others are god damn funny.. haha...

Still..if you can understand all things discussed...
You can call yourself a Singaporean haha...

Enjoy!

melancholia & hope

melancholia seeps in
the leaf once green has shrivelled
the bud once ripening has withered

melancholia seeps in
the brook once bubbling has dried
the pond once teaming has exhausted
melancholia seeps in

perhaps
a change will do good

perhaps perhaps
new leaves might sprout
new buds might push forth
new streams might form and
new life might spring...
perhaps perhaps

I am trying and hopefully
seeds sown will bear fruits
soon enough to savour and enjoy

a new wave of hope and motivation
has come forth in ebbs and tides
more consistent that those of months past

keeping my fingers crossed
i will harvest those fruits soon
but in the meantime
more cultivations...

monday blues

i. am. seriously. not. cut. out. for. driving.

almost langgar a blangla worker on bicycle today. sigh.

=========
It's a nerdy day...
Stepped into office & most people's jaws dropped.

From nerd to teacher..you name it... ahha...I've heard it today...

Am not used to wearing specs outside...
Hate it when it slides down my flat nose..
Bleah...

Sharon's 1st reaction..."wah, very thick!"
Other reactions.."eh, you wear specs meh?"
"You look errr...different!"

haha...anyway, wearing it gave me headaches and made me experience vertigo..
Especially when you cannot see out of the corners of your eyes...

=========
yeah...v('',)v
meeting ahboy for makan tomorrow..

My poor little eye...

Got up yesterday...right eye was slightly red...
Damn it.
Popped by the doc's.
And got a pack of antibiotocs & a bottle of eyedrops...
With the stern instruction of "If by Monday it is still not well, you better go straight to A&E".

Sighz...been faithfully dripping the eyedrops every 4 hours...
Been faithfully popping the antibio pills every 6 hours...
Eye is not reddish anymore...but still feels slightly weird...

Damn..think I have to be in specs for the next few days...
Lay off contacts for a few days...

Bleah..back to nerdy perdy days...
Think my eyes will shrink behind the thick lenses..
Will look like a gong gong...

Eeeww...anything to do with the eyes makes me squeamish...

========
Enigma messaged me yday...
Said he was back in the capital city of Dili after his voluntary stint in an ulu village somewhere in Timor Leste.
Said the trip was great...enriching...
And will tell me all about it when he's back.. haha..

recap?

Been awhile since my last post.
Kinda tired and busy over the past week or so.
And gonna be fort he next 2 weeks as well....

Lemme see...a brief recap..
Last Sunday..got up earlier and got my butt down to Chilla Padi at Bugis.
With Ling & gang.
Buffet Peranakan food..
Wasn't quite what I expected...but oh well...I guess they can't have the more expensive item like Buah Keluah and Bakwan Kepiting up as a buffet item...else they'll lose $$...

Monday...Hmm..nothing much I think ...can't remember liao ahha..

Tuesday & Wednesday haha...
Was on course at Redhill..TMD. Had to leave house early to reach there on time at 9am.
MRT ride there was okay. It's the walk from the station to the course location.
Uphill all the way...bleah..
I don't like the idea of starting the day sweating like a pig...

Anyway the course was dry at the beginning but fun along the way especially when the group discussions started haha...
Guess what the course is? Risk Management..!!
Bleah...kinda niche..a Workplace Safety & Health course..
And why the freakign hell am I taking such a course?
Cos my boss wants me t have good product knowledge...and since I'm ding marketing fro this business unit, voila...I have to sit in the course....

Anyway, it helped that there was a cute guy in my group...Some eye candy saves the monotony of the class... =p

Wednesday night...popped by Joyce's dad's wake..
Sigh...at a loss for words...so many things has been happening to her...
Think she's a really strong girl to be able to withstand so much...
Wave after wave of stuff...just when she thought she could take a short breather..then wham, something comes up again...

Thursday..boring day at work again...

Friday...muahahaha....went off on a half day..
Had lunch with TP at Sakae..he came by from home cos he was on leave...
And there I was being Aunt Agony...hearing his sighs and his "I don't know what to do now..."
The sweet soul accompanied me after lunch to wait for TH.
Left once I met up with TH.

And so...together with TH, went over to Amara hotel for Ally's ROM!
Eugene was there already & PQ came shortly after...

ALLY...sibei chio!!
Clad in a lavender gown with a dark purple sash cinched around the waist...
Fake eyelashes and shimmery purple eyeshadow..Hair done up in a simple yet elegant manner...
And by 330pm, our dear Alison Sue has become...Mrs Peck....
hahah....

Sat around, lounged around...ate..drank...
And then the 4 of us sans the newly-weds...made our way to Partyworld for round 2 of merry-making...
Eugene left earlier..and so there were only 3 of us...TH, me & PQ...

3 musketeers popped by Maxwell Road for some simple makan fare...before making oyr way home..
By cab of course.. haha
