Family Excursion

Yesterday was really a logistical nightmare. Haha. Bringing Gran to True Blue Cuisine and then to the Peranakan Museum seems like an excursion to be done only once in a long while cos of the effort it takes.. ahha
Talks to coordinate time & date & venue started close to 1.5 weeks ago.

Was out at 10-plus yesterday morning just to go fetch Gran from the Home.

From getting her changed to her outside clothes, to getting her in the wheelchair, to bringing her downstairs and then getting up from the wheelchair and into the car...

Mum was a little grumpy, nagged at Dad. Dad got a little frumpy too. Gran was well...neutral, just huffing from the effort of moving from bed to wheelchair to car. And I was trying to be chirpy.

Reached the place and darn, no carpark. "Unloaded" Gran...had to hold her cos there were two steps...car to wheelchair...then into restaurant...

Got into restaurant and they had to shift tables & chairs for us to create space for her...
Needless to say, waiters & waitresses were deployed...people were staring...and um, yah, it felt a little uncomfortable.

In the meantime, Dad went to park the car but got lost and ended up in Orchard...wah lau....u-turned back and got Adrian to park the car for him instead.....

Finally settled down as a whole family...Dad, Mum, Gran, Adrian, Dasao, Marc, Me & Ahboy....ordered lotsa dishes...Pomelo Sald with Edible Orchid flowers, Ayam Buah Keluak, Fish in Tamarind Sauce, Egg Omellet with Pepper Leaves, Crab Meatball Soup with Bamboo Shoot, Itek Sio, Ngor Hiang, Chap Chye and Longan Red Date Tea.......signature Peranakan dishes...

Slurped, munched, gobbled and finally finished the meal.....then the Grand Dame she wanted to go to the loo...

Shit, lots of commotion again. Moved Gran from chair to wheelchair....And well, a wheelchair is not a small item...
Patrons chairs were inched closer to their tables, "sorrys" coming from me & mum, "it's oks" coming back from the patrons..Had to manoeveur to the loo. Thankfully the loo was spacious enough to accomodate the whole wheelchair...

Ok, so finally settled the meal, and off we went to the Museum...Lots of space, there was a lift...so all was well...
Not sur eif she enjoyed the trip there...But she sure did like pointing out things which she was all too familiar with...

"Hey, I used to have that piece of crockery!!"
"I know how to make that type of kebaya hanging on the wall!"
"I know how to make those beaded shoes!!"
"My Mum had that kueh-kueh mould last time!!"
"That is called the Tempat Sireh! We used to have it at home last time but I threw it away!"

"Hey! That thing..."
"Ah! This thing..."
"Oh yah...That thing..."

I take it she enjoyed herself somewhat....

Brought her back to the Home by 3pm.....Nurses helped to change her back to the Home's uniform...
And off she went....to her deep afternoon nap...or should I call it sleep instead cos she was shacked out haha...

I don't know how many more Mothers' Days will she enjoy...
But me & Adrian will endeavour to make each one a lasting one in her mind.....
